Background
The first Gathering of Open Technologies for Agroecology and Environmental Health was held in Mendoza in 2022 as the closing event of the reGOSH Residency (Latin American Network of Open Technologies for Science and Education). It provided a space for sharing scientific-technological and territorial knowledge and experiences among the reGOSH participants, while also serving as an opportunity to open up and foster dialogue with other local actors. Since then, two more gatherings with the same spirit have taken place—one in Buenos Aires (2023) and another in Córdoba (2024)—organized by various groups producing open technologies affiliated with reGOSH.
Invitation/motivation
The production and circulation of knowledge around open technologies for agroecology and socio-environmental health are the core focus of these gatherings, which aim to support the situated development of such technologies. In other words, for open technologies to emerge through dialogue with and within the territories, so they can accompany and respond to local needs—becoming tools that support, generate, and/or facilitate learning processes, the production of situated knowledge, and thus, reexistence.
In the current context of systematic attacks on common goods, public universities, and scientific-technological activity dedicated to the territories of reexistence, we believe it is essential to sustain these spaces for gathering—where disciplinary and institutional boundaries dissolve, and laboratories move into the streets and diverse territories to engage with the many community-based experiences and spaces that have arisen in defense of healthy, fair, and sovereign food systems, and the reproduction of ways of life that see themselves as part of the web of life—as part of the commons.
Organization/logistics
In its fourth edition, the gathering returns to Mendoza, from October 1 to 4, 2025, following a format similar to previous years, which will include workshops, discussion panels, visits to local territories, and public events.
The event is being organized in a self-managed manner, as we currently do not have institutional funding. We are beginning to spread the word well in advance so that those who wish to attend can plan and participate. In this spirit, we also chose the dates to align with the XXXI Argentine Ecology Meeting and the 1st Trinational Ecology Meeting (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay), which will take place in the city of Mendoza from October 5 to 9.
We are currently seeking institutional support and funding to cover accommodation and logistical expenses for participants. All ideas and initiatives in this regard are welcome.
